How to Choose an ELDT and CDL Training Provider
Use registry status, transparent pricing, equipment, instructor access, and written policies to compare programs.
Verify the exact provider and location
Search the FMCSA Training Provider Registry for the school’s legal name, physical location, and the curriculum you need. A company name appearing somewhere in the registry is not enough; confirm the specific training location and credential.
Ask for the complete price in writing
Request an itemized list covering tuition, registration, permit preparation, medical or drug testing, road-test fees, equipment use, retests, housing, and third-party charges. Also review cancellation, refund, attendance, and make-up policies.
Understand access to equipment and instructors
Ask how many trainees share a truck, how range and public-road time are scheduled, which transmission types are available, and whether the vehicle used for training can be used for the skills test. Confirm how instructors document proficiency.
Evaluate outcomes carefully
Licensure and job-placement claims need context. Ask how the school defines a graduate, the time period covered, whether results are independently verified, and which employers actually hired recent students. No school can guarantee a state test result or a job.
