FMCSA Registry Shows Nearly 10,000 ELDT Training Locations Removed
FMCSA's live Training Provider Registry listed 9,967 removed training locations on October 9, underscoring why CDL applicants should verify the exact provider, location, and curriculum before paying or starting ELDT.
The registry now shows 9,967 removed locations
FMCSA's live Training Provider Registry dashboard listed 9,967 removed training locations on October 9, along with 31,065 active locations and 757 locations under review. A new industry report published October 8 described the broader cleanup as nearly 10,000 school locations removed as of October 5. The official dashboard is dynamic, so its totals can change as FMCSA completes reviews, withdraws notices, removes locations, or updates records.
A location is not the same as an entire school company
The TPR separately counts training providers and training locations. Its October 9 dashboard showed 18,280 active providers serving 31,065 active locations. One provider may operate several campuses, an online program, or traveling-provider locations. Removal of one location therefore does not automatically mean that every location or curriculum offered by the organization has been removed. CDL applicants should verify the exact address and training type they plan to use.
FMCSA is reviewing inactive locations
The TPR homepage says FMCSA is sending notices to providers with one or more locations that have submitted no driver-training completion certifications during the previous 12 months. Inactivity does not by itself prove that a school delivered poor or fraudulent training. The review helps remove stale listings and requires affected providers to follow the instructions in the agency's notice if they want the location to remain active.
Under review does not mean already removed
FMCSA marks providers and locations that receive a notice of proposed removal. The agency's FAQ says a provider may generally continue training while completing required corrective actions, but it must notify trainees who are currently enrolled and those scheduled for future training about the proposed removal. Students should ask for the notice, the response deadline, the affected location, and the provider's written plan before deciding whether to begin or continue.
Training after the actual removal date is invalid
FMCSA states that if it removes a provider because the provider did not respond to the proposed-removal notice or failed to complete required corrective action, training conducted after the removal date is not valid. That timing matters. A proposed-removal notice is not the same as a final removal, while training completed before a later removal should not be casually described as invalid. Students with a date-specific concern should check the official removed-provider list and contact the TPR Team.
Verify the exact curriculum before paying
A school can be listed for one training type without being authorized for every ELDT curriculum. Search the TPR for the precise provider name and location, then confirm whether the listing covers Class A theory, Class A behind-the-wheel, Class B, Passenger, School Bus, or Hazardous Materials training as needed. Save a dated screenshot or PDF of the listing, the enrollment agreement, total price, refund terms, schedule, and the curriculum the school promises to report.
Check that completed training reaches your driver record
Registered providers must submit successful completion information to the TPR by midnight of the second business day after the trainee completes the training. The TPR provides a driver-record check so applicants can confirm what was submitted before relying on a state testing appointment. If the record is missing or incorrect, contact the provider promptly and document the request; repeated reporting failures can become a compliance issue for the provider.
Do not accept a paper certificate as the only proof
A receipt, completion letter, or school-issued certificate can be useful for your records, but the state driver licensing agency relies on the electronic TPR record for covered ELDT requirements. If a school is not listed, promises to upload a record through another provider, or says the registry does not matter, pause before paying or attending. FMCSA instructs trainees enrolled with an unlisted provider to contact the TPR Team.
A practical enrollment checklist
Before enrollment, search the exact location; confirm the required theory or behind-the-wheel curriculum; look for any proposed-removal notation; compare equipment, instructors, schedule, and total cost; and keep the contract and payment records. After completion, check the TPR driver record and correct errors before the state test. These steps do not guarantee training quality, but they reduce the risk of paying for instruction that cannot satisfy the federal ELDT prerequisite.
Educational summaries help you prepare, but official FMCSA and state licensing sources remain the authority for current requirements.
