Roadside Inspection Readiness Begins Before the Driver Leaves the Yard
Documents, vehicle condition, cargo securement, and calm communication remain the foundation of an efficient inspection.
Organize required documents
Before departure, confirm the credentials and operating documents required for the driver, vehicle, load, and route are current and accessible.
Inspect rather than assume
A recently used vehicle can still develop a defect. Complete the required inspection and review available prior reports before moving.
Respond clearly and safely
At an inspection, follow directions, secure the vehicle, provide requested records, and ask for clarification when an instruction is not understood.
Educational summaries help you prepare, but official FMCSA and state licensing sources remain the authority for current requirements.
